Treehouse: This teenager's rule: no touching the sheets during casual encounters

So, things ended pretty rough with my ex-girlfriend.

It was one of those breakups that hits you hard, you know?

We had our good times, but when it fell apart, it felt like everything just crumbled. After that, I found myself in this phase of hookups—nothing serious, just some casual encounters with people who weren’t really my type. You could say I was just trying to fill the void, looking for some distraction.

One night, I had someone coming over, and I thought I’d lighten the mood with some cartoons. I figured, what’s better than some classic animation to set a chill vibe? When they showed up, I had this new toothbrush I bought specifically for them sitting on the counter. I thought it was a nice touch, you know? I casually suggested they brush their teeth, and they shrugged it off, saying, "Sure, whatever."

I took my place on the bed, expecting a straightforward interaction. But instead of joining me up there, they plopped down on the floor, resting their head against my bedspread. I felt a bit of irritation rise up in me. I snapped a bit and asked them to steer clear of my sheets. It wasn’t personal; I just like to keep things clean, you know? I mean, it’s my space, and I have my standards.

We went through the motions after that, but there was this weird tension in the air. It felt off, like we were both just going through the motions without really connecting. After a couple of visits, they just stopped talking to me. No texts, no calls—just silence. Now I’m left wondering what went wrong. Was it the toothbrush? Did I come off too strong? Maybe it was the whole "don’t touch my sheets" thing?

It’s frustrating trying to figure out what happened. I thought we were just having some fun, but now I’m left with these questions hanging over me. It’s a strange feeling, realizing that something so simple could lead to such a disconnect.

I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes in this messy world of casual encounters.

Sincerely,
feeling a little skittish, but who knows?
