Two People Who Said Yes

Pastor Mel and Desiree Ayres — everybody calls her Des — didn't set out to build something big. They set out to build something real. That's a huge difference, and don't miss it.

They started In His Presence Church on a simple conviction: God still shows up. Not in theory. Not in a book. In the room. When they named this church, they meant it. His presence wasn't a slogan slapped on a banner. It was the whole point.

Mel brought the fire. Steady, direct, unafraid to open the Bible and say what it actually says. Des brought the warmth — the kind of love that notices the person nobody else notices. Together they created a culture that most churches only talk about. People walked in broken and walked out belonging.

Week after week after week, straight through until the day he graduated. Do you know how rare that is? Most kids that age are looking for the exit. Mitchell was looking for God.

That kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident. Somebody was praying for him. Mel and Des were pouring into him whether he realized it or not. Every sermon he heard, every worship set he sat through, every hard word that landed on his heart — it was all going somewhere. God was building a foundation in that kid one Sunday at a time.

After Mitchell graduated, he stepped into production work. Real work, telling real stories. He was producing a documentary called Jobs For Freedom — a project loosely associated with Barack Obama. That's the kind of stage that would swallow most young men whole.

But through that production group, Mitchell discovered the preaching and teaching of Pastor Mark Driscoll — bold, unfiltered, and unwilling to soften the gospel to make it comfortable. Something connected. The seeds Mel and Des had planted in that church were about to get watered from a whole new source.

That's how God works. He connects the dots you can't see. A kid in a church back row. Two faithful pastors who wouldn't quit. A documentary. A production crew. A message that finally clicked. None of it was random.

In His Presence Church exists because Mel and Des Ayres said yes to God and never took it back.
