A brush fire erupted in western Malibu on Thursday, October 15, prompting evacuation orders and warnings as Southern California faced another period of elevated wildfire danger.

The Bryson Fire ignited near Encinal Canyon Road, in the vicinity of Calamigos Ranch, as dry conditions and strong Santa Ana winds created challenging conditions for firefighters. Wind gusts forecast to reach up to 50 mph raised concerns about the potential for the fire to spread.

Los Angeles County officials issued evacuation orders for areas facing immediate danger, while surrounding communities were placed under evacuation warnings. Residents were urged to monitor emergency alerts, prepare to leave if conditions changed, and follow instructions from local authorities.

By Friday, October 16, the fire had burned approximately 146 acres and reached 17% containment. At that point, officials reported no structures damaged or destroyed. Fire crews continued working to reinforce containment lines and protect nearby homes and properties.

The incident comes amid renewed concerns over wildfire preparedness across Southern California, where dry vegetation, low humidity and powerful winds can accelerate fire growth. Utility companies also considered preventive power shutoffs in areas where electrical equipment could pose an additional ignition risk.

The fire’s cause remained under investigation as emergency personnel continued response efforts. Residents in affected areas were advised to follow official evacuation guidance and rely on verified updates as conditions evolved.
