Mitchell's Toy Aisle Adventure
Taking Mitchell to the big box clearance store was always an adventure. As we walked through the aisles, I could see his eyes light up at the sight of the toy section. Instead of heading straight to the electronics aisle for headphones, I decided to let him explore the toy aisle, knowing how much he loved it.
"Alright, buddy! You can grab a few toys, but remember, no action figures today," I reminded him, knowing that those were off-limits for him. Mitchell nodded eagerly, darting toward the colorful shelves filled with all sorts of toys.
He picked up a bright red fire truck, its shiny surface gleaming under the store lights. "Look at this one!" he exclaimed, his face beaming with excitement. Next, he spotted a set of building blocks and quickly added them to his growing pile.
As he rummaged through the shelves, he found a plush dinosaur that he couldn't resist. "Can I get this too?" he asked, holding it up with hopeful eyes. I smiled and nodded, happy to see him so engaged.
Mitchell's laughter echoed through the aisle as he imagined all the adventures he could have with his new toys. It was a joy to watch him explore and express his creativity, even if some toys were off-limits. Our trip to the clearance store turned into a delightful day filled with laughter, imagination, and a few new treasures to take home.
As Mitchell continued to explore the toy aisle, his excitement was palpable. He was busy stacking building blocks and giggling at the plush dinosaur he had just picked up. Suddenly, I noticed a change in his expression. It was clear he was focused, and I knew what that meant—Mitchell was about to unload into his Pampers.
At first, I hesitated, but then I reminded myself that this was perfectly normal for him. He was comfortable in his own skin, and I appreciated how far he had come in this journey. I smiled and reassured him, “It’s okay, buddy! Just let it happen.”
Once he finished, we made our way to the family restroom. Mitchell was excited to see the colorful wall art and the little step stool by the sink. I helped him wash his hands before I took my turn at the potty.
“Can I wait outside?” he asked, looking up at me with his big, curious eyes. I nodded, knowing he was capable of waiting patiently. As I closed the door, I could hear him humming a little tune, clearly content in his own world.
After I finished, I opened the door to find him still standing there, a proud smile on his face. “Did you wash your hands?” I asked, and he nodded vigorously. It was moments like these that made our outings special—filled with understanding, acceptance, and a touch of humor.
