Treehouse: This Malibu teen says Calabasas is making the upper class look bad—and it’s time to grow up
Hey Calabasas,
I’m a senior from Malibu—not exactly what you’d call “popular” or part of the in-crowd, but I’ve been watching from the sidelines for a while now. And I gotta say, there’s something about your reputation that’s been on my mind.
People say Calabasas clings to high school way too long. Like, even 20 years after graduation, some of you are still referencing that one time you got cut in the hot lunch line in 10th grade or acting like your whole identity is tied to who you graduated with. And yeah, I get it—we all hold onto memories. High school is a big part of shaping who we are.
But here’s the thing: people change. We evolve. The people you were in high school aren’t the people you are now. Holding onto those old stories like they define you forever? That’s where it gets tricky.
Honestly, some of the ways this plays out are making the upper class look bad. It’s like we’re stuck in this weird “Napoleon Dynamite” vibe—awkward, stuck in the past, and not really moving forward. That’s not the image we should be putting out there.
We’re better than that. We’re more than just the high school drama that happened years ago. It’s time to grow up and show it.
