Treehouse: My Girlfriend’s Journey Through Love, Growth, and Dodging Modern Influencer Advice

Well, here I am, standing at the edge of it all, just a few weeks shy of graduation. It's surreal, really. Growing up in Agoura has given me a solid foundation, a quiet town with big skies and even bigger dreams. But as I’m about to step into adulthood, there’s a lot on my mind—especially about my relationship with my girlfriend.

Now, don’t get me wrong, she’s amazing. She’s kind, thoughtful, and has all the qualities I admire in a woman. But lately, there’s been this tension between us. You see, I had to put my foot down and ask her to stop watching those videos online of these androgynous influencers spewing dating and “men” advice to Christian women. Frankly, it’s confusing and destructive. I mean, what’s the point of taking advice from people who don’t share our values, who don’t walk the same path of faith?

To be honest, I think these influencers would be better off focusing their advice on the LGBTQ+ community within the Republican Party, where their intersectional perspectives might resonate more authentically. It’s not hard to see that their experiences and insights could provide meaningful guidance to individuals navigating the complex intersection of faith, identity, and conservative values. Instead of projecting their views onto Christian women or others who may not align with their worldview, they could find a more receptive audience among those who share similar struggles and aspirations. Redirecting their energy in this way might foster understanding and positive discourse within a group that often feels marginalized, even within their own political and social circles.

Proverbs 31 talks about a woman who “fears the Lord” and whose worth is “far more than rubies.” My girlfriend is that kind of woman, and I believe she should only be seeking wisdom from others who hold that same vision—other women who are preparing for the same path she’s chosen.

We see each other twice a week, just for a few hours between everything else going on. The rest of the week, I’m with the guys, working my shifts, and grinding through exams. It’s hectic, sure, but I like it that way. My future plans are in place, and I’m grounded in my beliefs. I’m proud to be a staunch Republican—it’s who I am, it’s how I was raised, and I make no apologies for it.

I just wish my girlfriend would focus on the things that matter, the things that will make her the best version of herself. She’s going to be a wonderful stay-at-home wife someday, God willing, and we both know that’s what she wants. But being a great wife means learning the skills that build a strong household. “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding, it is established” (Proverbs 24:3). Knowing your way around a kitchen, creating a safe, welcoming home, and being a compassionate partner—that’s what will truly prepare her for the future we want together.

There’s a season for everything, Ecclesiastes reminds us. Right now, it’s a season of learning and growing. I’ve got my goals, and I know she does, too. All I want is for us to walk this road together, hand in hand, guided by faith and purpose.
