Treehouse: Burgers, Hot Bars, and Life Lessons

Hey,

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on something that’s been weighing on my mind, inspired by a recent experience with our friend from the Bible Belt who attended a self-help development workshop. We all chipped in to cover his plane ticket, hoping he would come back with stories of mentoring a friend from afar. Instead, he returned with tales that left us both amused and bewildered.

Instead of the life-changing mentorship we envisioned, he regaled us with stories of his culinary adventures. He spent his time indulging in burgers at local joints, savoring every bite as if it were a gourmet meal. He even treated himself to expensive dinners at Erewhon, where he filled his plate from the hot bar, relishing the variety of options. And let’s not forget the workout classes he took, which he described with the enthusiasm of someone who had just discovered a new passion.

While we were initially excited for him to come back with insights and wisdom, it seems he found joy in the simple pleasures of life instead. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the journey we expect isn’t the one we get. Instead of profound lessons, he brought back laughter and stories that will surely become legendary among our group.

So, while we may have hoped for a transformative experience, what we got was something equally valuable: a reminder to embrace life’s little moments. Sometimes, it’s not about the grand gestures or deep revelations, but rather the fun experiences that bring us together.

Just wanted to share these thoughts with you all. Sometimes, the most important lessons come from the moments we least expect.

— A Friend
