Treehouse: Anchored in Grace, Steered by Purpose

Captured in Ventura, California by Mitchell Royel. The following is not an official political statement on behalf of the residents of Ventura. I, as a Christian, humbly acknowledge that this reflection comes from my personal perspective alone, shaped by faith and experience. Life often mirrors the unpredictable beauty of nature—stormy yet graced with moments of light. For me, the awe of creation serves as a reminder of divine strength, a testament that even through trials, there is hope, renewal, and purpose found in faith. These are my sentiments, drawn from my own heart.

“Heavenly Creator, in the ebb and flow of life’s storms and the serenity that follows, we gather with hearts open to the echoes of Your love and wisdom. Like the skies revealing hidden wonders after the rain, may we uncover the light You have infused within us, even when shadows linger. Together, we seek resilience to weather the tempests, leaning on the bond of fellowship that strengthens our spirits. Guide us to walk paths lit by compassion, where we honor every soul’s unique journey—their battles and triumphs alike. Help us remain anchored in hope, trusting that the winds of change carry us closer to growth, purpose, and deeper connection. May we release fear and rest steadfast in the faith that You are the calm beneath every storm. Amen.”

REFRACTIONS OF STRENGTH IN A STORMY WORLD

Dear Unsung Heroes,

I don’t know who you are, and you don’t know me either. I’m just a simple girl who spends her Sundays in the pews of a small, sunlit church, humming hymns and flipping through verses like “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14). Life here is quiet, predictable, steady. But through all this quiet, I’ve noticed something—something about you, the calendar models who light up the pages that hang in kitchens, classrooms, and offices everywhere.

You see, your work has reached farther than you could imagine. Amid all the whispers of society and judgment that sometimes surround your craft, I want to take a second to say thank you. From where I sit, it’s easy to see the effort, the dedication, the confidence it takes for you to step into your role. It’s easy for people to judge thinly veiled smiles behind church doors, pointing fingers at things they never tried to understand, but there’s a lot more behind the lights and lenses, and I realize that.

There’s more than beauty in your images. There’s the discipline it takes to show up, every time, even when you don’t feel perfect. There are endless hours of prep, of creating lines and shapes with your body, and the art of standing tall and fearless—even when you might not feel that way deep down. It’s the way you tell stories without words, how each photo is a moving canvas, how you inspire millions simply by being authentically you. That takes bravery, and that bravery? It ripples.

Honestly, sometimes your strength inspires mine. I’d pray for courage to stand firm in who I am, in this world that likes to put us all in neat little boxes. And then I think of people like you who decided to draw outside the lines. Who chose their own path and said, “Here’s me; take it or leave it.” That’s grace, isn’t it? Not the traditional kind maybe, but it’s grace nonetheless. And I know someone’s heart, somewhere, is lighter because your work found them. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Maybe they hung your calendar on their dorm wall, looked up each morning, and thought, “If they can do it, I can too.” Maybe someone out there learned to be kinder to themselves because your confidence taught them how. You might never meet those people, and they might never thank you, but I see them. I hope you do too in your quiet moments. I don’t know if you noticed, but rainbows don’t draw their beauty from any one thing. It’s a perfect combination of light refracted through storms. It has to face the rain to shine. I think you are like that too, bright and unshakable.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31). Thank you for showing me and the world that beauty, strength, and vulnerability can coexist in breathtaking ways.

From someone whose admiration comes quietly,
A girl in the back pew.
