Patrick's Morning with Mitchell: Blocks and Nap Time

The morning light filtered through the daycare’s windows, casting soft shadows on the play area. Patrick sat cross-legged on the foam mat, a colorful array of wooden blocks spread between himself and Mitchell.

“Let’s build a tower,” Patrick suggested, selecting a large blue block.

Mitchell’s small hands grabbed a red block, placing it somewhat haphazardly next to Patrick’s. His concentration was intense, tongue slightly poking out as he carefully balanced the block.

After breakfast - a messy affair of oatmeal and fruit - Patrick noticed Mitchell needed a diaper change. With practiced ease, he lifted Mitchell onto the changing table, efficiently cleaning and changing the dirty diaper.

“All clean,” Patrick announced, tickling Mitchell’s belly and earning a giggle.

The block tower grew taller, then inevitably tumbled. Mitchell clapped, delighted by the crash. Patrick rebuilt, showing Mitchell how to create a more stable structure.

As mid-morning approached, Patrick could see Mitchell’s energy waning. “Nap time,” he said softly, gathering the tired toddler.

He settled Mitchell into his designated nap area, tucking a soft blanket around him. Mitchell’s eyes grew heavy, the morning’s play catching up with him. Patrick watched as the little boy drifted off to sleep, the block tower a distant memory.
