JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT: HOW WILL I REPEL THE DEVIL TODAY?
Scripture: James 4:7 — “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Today, we are going to examine the reality of spiritual warfare and recognize that the enemy does not always approach us in obvious or dramatic ways. Sometimes the attack comes through subtle distractions, negative thoughts, impatience, exhaustion, temptation, resentment, jealousy, division, fear, or discouragement. Sometimes the enemy attempts to weaken our faith by pulling us away from prayer, making us too busy for Scripture, or convincing us that we are alone in our struggles. He wants to steal our peace, disrupt our unity, weaken our spiritual discipline, and distract us from the purpose God has placed before us.
As Shepherds teachers, we have an important responsibility to protect the atmosphere of our classrooms. Our attitudes, words, reactions, and actions matter. We must be alert to the ways frustration, stress, negativity, and division can influence how we treat one another and the children entrusted to our care. We cannot expect to stand strong spiritually if we neglect the very thing that strengthens us: our relationship with God and our commitment to His Word.
The Bible is not something we pick up only when life gets difficult. It is our daily foundation, our source of truth, and our reminder of who God is and who we are in Christ. We must learn to recognize the enemy’s lies, reject temptation, guard our hearts, and respond to challenges with biblical truth rather than emotion. We repel the devil by submitting ourselves to God, resisting evil, remaining steadfast in prayer, forgiving others, speaking life, practicing self-control, and refusing to participate in anything that pulls us away from God’s character.
YOUR JOURNAL QUESTIONS
Take time to thoughtfully answer the following questions in your journal. Be honest, personal, and specific. This is an opportunity to examine your spiritual walk and identify how you will intentionally stand against the enemy today.
1. Recognizing the Enemy’s Tactics: What areas of your life are most vulnerable to spiritual attack right now? What distractions, attitudes, habits, relationships, or thought patterns could the enemy use to weaken your faith or steal your peace?
2. Guarding Your Mind: What negative thoughts, fears, frustrations, or temptations do you need to recognize and reject today? How will you prevent those thoughts from controlling your actions and influencing the way you treat others?
3. Clinging to God’s Word: How committed are you to keeping your Bible and God’s promises at the center of your daily life? What will you do today to make Scripture your first response rather than turning to worry, anger, or discouragement?
4. Resisting the Devil: What specific steps will you take TODAY to repel the devil? What will you refuse to entertain, participate in, speak about, or allow into your heart? How will you actively resist his attempts to create division, bitterness, temptation, or fear?
5. Protecting the Atmosphere: How might the enemy use stress, exhaustion, impatience, or conflict to affect your classroom today? What will you intentionally do to protect the emotional and spiritual atmosphere of Shepherds?
6. Standing Firm in Faith: When something goes wrong today, how will you respond differently because you are choosing to walk with Christ? What does submitting to God and resisting the devil look like in your everyday actions?
7. Making a Personal Commitment: What is ONE specific action you will take today to strengthen your relationship with God and refuse to give the enemy a foothold in your life?
CLOSING PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we come before You asking for strength, discernment, protection, and courage. Help us recognize the schemes of the enemy and never become so distracted by the world that we neglect Your Word. Teach us to cling to our Bibles, stand firmly on Scripture, and remain faithful in prayer. Guard our minds against deception, our hearts against bitterness, and our mouths against words that create division. Help us recognize when we are being tempted to react in anger, frustration, fear, or impatience. Give us the discipline to stop, pray, and respond in a way that honors You. We submit ourselves to You and resist the devil. We will not give him a foothold in our homes, our classrooms, our relationships, or our hearts. Cover our Shepherds staff, our children, and our families. Let our classrooms be places of love, peace, patience, unity, and encouragement. Equip us with the full armor of God so that we can stand firm against the spiritual battles of the day. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE: Don’t just talk about resisting the devil. Identify the areas where you need to stand firm, open your Bible, pray with intention, and put your faith into action.
