As for the party, please note that the instructions presented here are mandatory, regardless of age—so everyone, get ready to join in and make it happen! This is a celebration not to be missed, so let's come together and make Liam's special day truly extraordinary.
FADE IN:
INT. HOLLYWOOD HILLS HOME — GREAT ROOM — DUSK
The sky outside is doing something ridiculous. Purple, orange, pink — all of it spilling across the Hollywood Hills through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Way out in the distance, glowing faintly in the last light, the HOLLYWOOD sign sits on the hillside like it showed up just for tonight.
Inside, the room is warm and alive. Hardwood floors. A stone fireplace with tiny string lights wrapped along the mantel. Blue, white, and silver balloons drift near the ceiling and cluster in the corners. On a dark wood table sits a multi-tiered birthday cake — white frosting, chocolate dripping down the sides, blue and gold sprinkles, candles waiting. Above it, a banner reads "HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY!"
Somewhere in the background, voices. Laughter. The sound of a house full of people having a really good time.
LIAM, 13, stands center frame in a blue-and-white patterned polo with a dark collar. He's holding a small decorated party plate, grinning at something off to his side. Then he spots us. He lights up.
LIAM
Oh — hey. You made it.
He sets the plate down and steps toward us.
LIAM (CONT'D)
I'm Liam. And today? Today is my birthday.
He gestures around the whole glowing room — the balloons, the cake, the view, the people just out of frame.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Thirteen. Officially a teenager. My mom keeps looking at me like I grew overnight. I did not. I checked.
He points a thumb over his shoulder at the window.
LIAM (CONT'D)
So this is my house. Hollywood Hills. That's the actual Hollywood sign out there — yeah, the real one. Pretty wild, right? But here's the thing I really want you to hear.
He walks closer, lowers his voice a little, like he's letting us in on something.
LIAM (CONT'D)
It's my birthday. My whole family's here. My friends are here. The house is full. And it got me thinking — I don't want to celebrate this without you. Wherever you are. Whatever house you're in. Big house, small house, apartment. Doesn't matter.
He spreads his arms wide.
LIAM (CONT'D)
You're all invited. Right now. To this.
He claps his hands together, energized.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Here's why I actually pulled you aside. I want to give you something. A party template. And it works any day of the year — not just your birthday. Not just mine. Any random Tuesday you want to make feel like something.
He holds up a finger.
LIAM (CONT'D)
And listen — this isn't just for the kids. This is for the big kids too. The dads. Yeah. You, sir, on the couch. This one's especially for you.
He grins, steps a little closer.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Three steps. That's it. Let me break it down.
The camera pushes in slightly. Liam is in full flow.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Step one. Invite your people over.
He pauses to let that land.
LIAM (CONT'D)
This is the big one. Because a party isn't the balloons. It's not the fancy house. It's not the view.
He waves a hand at the jaw-dropping sunset behind him like it's no big deal whatsoever.
LIAM (CONT'D)
It's the people. You could have all of this — and if nobody's here with you? It's just a nice, quiet room. Beautiful. But quiet.
He shakes his head.
LIAM (CONT'D)
So text a friend. Call your cousin. Tell your neighbor to come over. Dads — call the guys. The real ones. The kind who actually show up.
He holds up a second finger.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Step two. Get a cake.
He steps to the table and gently spins the birthday cake so we can see the full chocolate drip situation.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Any cake. Fancy cake. Grocery store cake. A stack of cookies with a candle stuck in the top — it counts. Doesn't matter what it looks like. The cake is the signal. The cake says — hey. Today counts.
He lets that sit for a beat.
LIAM (CONT'D)
And you don't need the streamers. You don't need a hundred balloons. I went a little big because it's my thirteenth and I'm not apologizing for it. But you? You can skip all of that. Keep it simple.
He picks up a single balloon, looks at it for a moment, then lets it go. It drifts back up to the ceiling.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Good people. A cake. A vibe. That's a party. That's the whole formula.
He holds up a third finger.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Step three. And this one's really for the big kids and the dads. Watch the game.
He points straight at us.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Whatever your game is. Football. Basketball. Soccer. Racing. Doesn't matter what's on. What matters is everybody's crammed onto the same couch, yelling at the same screen, at the same time.
He laughs.
LIAM (CONT'D)
My dad yells "COME ON" at the TV like the players can actually hear him through the screen. They cannot. But he believes they can. And honestly? I think that's what being a fan is all about.
He turns back to us, slower now. Warmer.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Here's what I figured out turning thirteen. A party isn't a size. It's not a price tag. It's not a house on a hill.
He glances out at the view — the hills going dark, the city lights starting to flicker on — then back at us.
LIAM (CONT'D)
A party is just people you love, in a room, glad to be together. That's the whole trick. You can throw one tonight if you want. You don't need a reason. You just need each other.
He pauses.
LIAM (CONT'D)
And a cake. You do need a cake.
He picks his plate back up and looks right into the camera.
LIAM (CONT'D)
So here's your invite. Not to my house — to your own. Wherever you are right now. Grab your people. Grab something sweet. Turn on the game. And make today count.
He turns back toward the table. The room hums with voices and laughter just out of frame. Someone off-screen starts to sing — low at first, then louder. More voices join in.
Liam turns to us one last time, over his shoulder.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Make a wish with me. Ready?
He faces the cake. Leans in. Blows out the candles.
The room erupts. Cheering, clapping, someone whistling. The candles go dark and the whole room glows warmer somehow — the Hollywood Hills sparkling behind the glass, the city lit up below, the night just beginning.
A title card bounces onto the screen in bold, hand-drawn letters — "BRING YOUR OWN PARTY." Confetti falls around the words. Upbeat, feel-good music kicks in.
FADE TO BLACK.
[BYOP] BRING YOUR OWN PARTY INSTRUCTIONS
FADE IN:
INT. HOLLYWOOD HILLS HOME — GREAT ROOM — NIGHT
The room is alive with energy now. The music's upbeat tempo thrums softly, and the camera pans across clusters of friends talking, laughing, and clinking glasses. The city lights below shimmer like stars, stretching endlessly into the night.
LIAM appears again, stepping into the frame with a big grin, holding a red Solo cup in one hand and a speaker remote in the other.
LIAM
Alright, everybody — here’s the plan. We’ve got four hours to make this the best night of your week, no matter what is going on in your life. And guess what? This is for everyone — your whole crew. Bring your teammates, your group chat, your roommates — even that guy who always forgets his wallet. You ready? Good. Here’s what we’re doing.
He sets the cup down dramatically and holds up one finger.
LIAM (CONT'D)
FIRST 30 MINUTES: Text your people. Get on that group chat. Invite three, four, twenty friends over — however many it takes to pack your place with good vibes. Doesn’t matter who you are or where you live. Got roommates? Cool. A backyard? Even better. No space? Doesn’t matter. What matters is who’s there.
He grabs a small box of sparklers from the table and shakes it.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Oh, and set the tone. Music is mandatory. DJ Liam suggests a little throwback hype playlist — can’t go wrong with early 2000s bangers.
He raises a second finger now, stepping backward toward the cake.
LIAM (CONT'D)
NEXT HOUR: Food. Trust me, no party survives without it. Burgers, hot dogs, or pizza — keep it classic and quick. Oh — and get a cake. And yes, it needs candles. Doesn’t matter if it’s store-bought or homemade. You light those candles, and bam — the vibe goes from zero to hero instantly.
He leans forward, giving an exaggerated wink.
LIAM (CONT'D)
Pro tip for my dads and big kids out there? Get some snacks for the couch crew. Nachos. Wings. Whatever pairs best with yelling at the TV.
Now he holds up three fingers, pacing the room like a coach delivering a halftime pep talk.
LIAM (CONT'D)
HOUR THREE: Find something fun to do. Play a party game. Talk smack over a board game. Or, if you need ideas, pick an article or video online and start a debate. “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” You won’t believe how heated it gets.
He picks up a football from a nearby chair and tosses it in the air.
LIAM (CONT'D)
You could start an indoor trash-can football league if you’re feeling competitive. Trust me, anything that gets people laughing or bonding? That’s the move.
LIAM holds up four fingers now, spinning the football under his arm. His energy is electric.
LIAM (CONT'D)
FINAL HOUR: All about the big finish. This is when the game goes on the TV, and everyone piles onto the couch. Doesn’t matter what you’re watching — play highlights, live matches, even reruns! The point is everyone yells at the screen like your life depends on it. Lose your voice. Cheer until your neighbors text you to quiet down. That’s when you know it’s a party.
He spreads his arms wide, beaming.
LIAM (CONT'D)
And that’s your four-hour challenge. Start now, wherever you are. Your one mission? Make tonight count. Because here's the secret — a BYO Party isn’t about the food or the balloons or even the cake. It’s about moments. The kind of memories you can’t fake.
The camera zooms out, showing the packed room once again, glittering with laughter, lights, and life. Somewhere, a soccer match starts blaring on TV — voices rise in excitement.
LIAM (CONT'D)
It doesn’t matter what’s happening in your world tonight. Just bring your people, grab some cake, and make it happen. For everyone, every time. No exceptions.
He grabs a sparkler, lights it, and waves it in the air. The flames glimmer against the view behind him.
LIAM (CONT'D)
What are you waiting for? Go. Start now.
He turns and heads back into the thrumming party.
FADE OUT.
