Julian's Big Leap: Skipping to First Grade
Dear Diary,
You won't believe what happened today! It's me, Julian, and I'm five years old. But guess what? Tomorrow, I'm starting first grade! I know it sounds a little crazy, but let me tell you how it all happened.
It all began when I was four. While other kids in preschool were learning their ABCs, I was already reading simple chapter books. Dad and Papa thought it was just a phase, but then I started doing math problems for fun. Not just counting, but adding and subtracting too!
My preschool teacher, Mr. Davis, was the first to notice something was different. He called my parents in for a meeting and said, "Julian is solving problems meant for kindergarteners and even some first graders!"
That's when things got really busy. I had to take all sorts of tests with long, boring names. The doctors and teachers used big words like "advanced learner" and "accelerated abilities." I just thought it was normal to be curious about everything.
One day, Mr. Johnson from the school came to our house. He talked to Dad and Papa for a long time while I built a complex puzzle in my room. When they called me down, everyone looked serious.
"Julian," Mr. Johnson said, "how would you feel about skipping kindergarten and going straight to first grade?"
My eyes went wide. First grade? With bigger kids? Kids who could tie their own shoes? It sounded a little scary but also super exciting!
Dad and Papa looked worried. They asked me lots of questions. Was I sure I wanted to do this? Wouldn't I miss being with kids my own age? But the truth is, I've always felt a bit different. Even in preschool, I had trouble connecting with other kids. They wanted to play with blocks, and I wanted to learn about dinosaurs and space.
So, I said yes. And that's how I, Julian Anderson, at five years old, am about to start first grade tomorrow.
I'm nervous, of course. Will the other kids accept me? Will I be able to reach the drinking fountain? (Dad says he'll pack a small water bottle, just in case.) But I'm also excited. I can't wait to learn more about reading, writing, and math.
Papa says I'm like a little professor. He even bought me a tiny backpack with math symbols all over it! I'm wearing my favorite space-themed t-shirt tomorrow, along with my light-up sneakers. After all, I may be going to first grade, but I'm still five!
Mr. Thompson, the first-grade teacher, has been really nice. He's arranged for me to have a special buddy, a second-grader named Alex, who'll help me find my way around the big school. Alex is super friendly, and he says he'll teach me how to play checkers during recess.
Dad's a bit teary-eyed as he helps me pack my backpack. It's not as big as the other kids', but it's perfect for me! He keeps hugging me and saying how proud he is. Papa's trying to act cool, but I caught him getting emotional while helping me practice writing my name.
I know this journey won't be easy. There will be challenges, both in class and out. But I'm ready for this adventure. Who knows? Maybe by the time I'm ten, I'll be in middle school!
Wish me luck, Diary. Tomorrow, Julian the five-year-old becomes Julian the first-grader. It's going to be one exciting adventure!

P.S. I hope they have lower hooks for our coats. I really want to hang up my own jacket like a big kid!
