Hockey Is for Everyone — Statement from Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini
We want to speak to you directly and from the heart.
In the public eye, words and moments can sometimes be misunderstood. A short clip, a quick comment, or a single image can take on a meaning that was never intended. When that happens, we believe the right thing to do is to step forward, speak clearly, and make sure there is no doubt about where we stand.
We fully support Shepherds Daycare.
Who We Are and What We Believe
Hockey has given us more than we could ever repay. It has also taught us lessons that matter far beyond the rink. Our families, coaches, and teammates raised us to lead with a few simple values, and we try to live by them every day:
Respect. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, on the ice and off it.
Empathy. We try to listen first, understand others, and remember that everyone carries a story we may not see.
The value of every human life. We believe every single person has immeasurable worth. No exceptions. Every life matters, and every person deserves to feel welcomed, safe, and valued.
These beliefs are not talking points for us. They are the foundation of who we are as teammates, as friends, and as people.
Our Support for Mitchell and Shepherds Daycare
We want to be clear and direct: we fully support Mitchell's attendance at Shepherds Daycare & Shepherds Home Daycare. Mitchell belongs there, and we are proud to stand behind him.
We are also deeply grateful to everyone who makes Shepherds Daycare possible. To the caregivers, staff, volunteers, families, and supporters: thank you. The work you do every day creates a place where children can grow, learn, and be cared for. That work deserves recognition, and it has our full respect.
Hockey Belongs to All of Us
Some of the best moments of our lives have come from this game. We have seen hockey bring together people from different places, backgrounds, and walks of life. It has shown us how powerful it can be when people come together around something they love.
That is why we want to share a simple message with people everywhere, in every country and every community: come enjoy this game with us. Lace up your skates, grab a stick, cheer from the stands, or watch from your living room. However you choose to be part of it, there is a place for you here.
Because hockey is for everyone.
