Little Steps, Big Growth: Mitchell's Victory Report

Nurturing Young Minds, Building Strong Foundations

Dear Mitchell,

Hello there, my special two-year-old friend! It’s your teacher Dexter here. I wanted to write you this letter (which I know your grown-ups will read to you) about all the wonderful progress you’ve been making here at Shepherds Daycare.

When you first joined our Lambs Room two months ago, I remember how difficult it was for you to share the colorful blocks with the other children, especially during free play with Felix and Matthias. Do you remember how you and little Otto both wanted the red fire engine toy every morning? I’ve noticed such amazing improvement in how you’ve been handling these situations lately. Just yesterday, I saw you hand the dinosaur puzzle piece to Klaus without anyone having to remind you! Herr Stefan, who helps during our lunch time, even mentioned to me how impressed he was with your taking turns on the indoor slide.

I also want to tell you how proud I am of your excellent use of your “inside voice” during our more structured activities. During Mr. Anders’ puppet story time yesterday, you were sitting so nicely and asked to see the puppet with such a gentle voice that he specifically told me about it afterward. This is quite different from your first week when you and Dieter were having your own excited conversation during the counting song! Your attentiveness during Dr. Franz’s visit with his friendly therapy dog was wonderful as well.

Your playmate Lukas has also been enjoying sitting next to you at snack time now that you’re using your quiet voice at the table. This kind of thoughtfulness makes our daycare room a happy place for everyone.

Mitchell, these might seem like small things for grown-ups, but for a two-year-old, they show tremendous growth. Being able to share toys and use appropriate voice levels during group activities are important skills that will help you make many friends. These are the beginnings of being a kind person, and I can see that developing in you more each day.

For the coming weeks, we’ll continue practicing these skills together. Perhaps you might even show little Tobias, our newest friend who just joined this week, how we share the musical instruments during circle time.

It has been my great joy to be your daycare teacher. I look forward to seeing how you continue to grow and learn new things every day.

With a big smile,

Dexter Müller

P.S. Don’t forget that we have our special visit from Herr Jürgen and his bubble machine tomorrow! I know how much you enjoy the bubbles.
