Turning 21, Graduating, and Fundraising: Reflections, Speeches, and a Flashback to Friendship

Today is one of those days you remember forever. I just turned 21 — finally legal in every sense — and I’m graduating with my bachelor’s degree. It’s been a journey filled with late-night study sessions, endless cups of coffee, and moments where I seriously questioned if I’d make it. But here I am, standing at the finish line, ready to cross into the next chapter of life.

On top of that, I’ve been throwing myself into fundraising efforts, trying to give back to the community that supported me through thick and thin. It’s humbling and inspiring to see how much good we can do when we come together. Balancing school, fundraising, and personal growth hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every second.

As part of the graduation ceremony, I had the honor of giving a speech. I wanted it to be real — a mix of gratitude for those who helped me along the way, inspiration for my peers stepping into the world, and a touch of humor to keep things light. I talked about perseverance, the power of community, and the importance of staying true to yourself, no matter what life throws your way.

But before I took the stage, my mind wandered back to a moment with my buddy Mitchell — a moment that perfectly captures the kind of friendship and humor that’s kept me sane through it all.

Picture this: Mitchell’s sitting there with his preschool book spread out in front of him, totally focused. I lean over, and with a mischievous grin, I let out a hefty fart right over the book. Yeah, the kind that hits you like a slap shot and makes you regret breathing for a second. Mitchell looks up, eyes wide with a mix of shock and amusement, and I can’t help but laugh as I say, “You’re gonna have to be a big boy and wait for me to finish my speech before you get a fresh Pamper.”

That moment — ridiculous, silly, and totally us — reminded me that no matter how grown-up life gets, there’s always room for a little mischief and camaraderie. It’s those small, playful moments that make the big milestones feel even more meaningful.

So here I am, 21 years old, degree in hand, and ready to take on whatever comes next. I’m proud of the work I’ve done, the people who’ve supported me, and the friendships that have kept me grounded — especially Mitchell, who’s been there through the chaos and the calm.
