Treehouse Presents: Writers Wanted: Short Film Project – “Raíces en Movimiento”
We are seeking visionary writers to develop a layered short film about Kristinia Morales, a young Hispanic woman who moves to the United States with her family from Mexico. Bearing the responsibility of supporting her loved ones, she forgoes traditional schooling and takes a job at a mall. Through relentless determination, Kristinia rises to become a manager—her ambition fueling her next move.
The story offers two compelling paths: Kristinia either develops a cosmetics brand inspired by Mexican beauty traditions and cultural pride, or she is scouted and lands a record deal, stepping into the music industry’s spotlight. But success is never without cost—she becomes embroiled in a scandal that threatens to unravel everything she’s built.
The title, “Raíces en Movimiento” (Roots in Motion), reflects the central tension of the story—the push and pull between honoring deep cultural roots and navigating the challenges of transformation and ambition in a new land. It symbolizes the journey of carrying heritage forward while embracing change and growth.
Rooted in themes of family loyalty, cultural identity, sacrifice, and resilience, this project draws inspiration from the moody, atmospheric tone of “Sabotage” by Kristinia DeBarge. It explores the tension between honoring one’s roots and forging a new path in a complex world.
We’re looking for writers who can:
Craft a richly textured, emotionally charged narrative
Develop complex, authentic characters with depth and cultural nuance
Navigate the tension between personal dreams, family responsibility, and cultural heritage
Capture the raw, cinematic mood that echoes the music’s haunting vibe
If you’re ready to help shape a story that confronts the cost of ambition and the strength found in cultural roots, we want to hear from you.
