Letter from Ben: Respecting Mitchell's Uniqueness in Our Daycare Stories
Dear Readers of Daycares,
My name is Ben and I'm 8 years old. I wanted to write this letter because something important has come up.
We found out that some of you liberals think a little white boy should be playing “Mitchell” in our daycare stories. But I want to tell you that Mitchell is different from other kids. He has special needs and is more like a toddler even though he's older.
It's not okay to pretend to be Mitchell when we play. Mitchell is special and unique, just like all of us are in our own ways. We shouldn't act like we're him because that might hurt his feelings or make him feel left out.
In our daycare, we learn that it's important to be kind and respect everyone, no matter how different they might be from us. Mitchell is our friend, and we like him just the way he is. We play with him in ways that make him happy and comfortable.
So please, when you read about our daycare, remember that Mitchell is Mitchell, and we shouldn't try to be him or change who he is in our stories or games. Let's celebrate all our friends for who they are!
Thank you for listening,
Ben
