Hurricane Erin: Another Climate Hysteria Opportunity for the Left

written by a member of the WCB

As Hurricane Erin tracks northward along the Eastern Seaboard as a Category 2 storm, the usual suspects in mainstream media have already begun their predictable climate alarmism campaign. Let’s cut through the noise and examine what’s actually happening with some intellectual honesty.

Hurricane Erin, while certainly deserving attention and proper preparation, represents nothing out of the ordinary in the historical context of Atlantic hurricane patterns. The storm, currently maintaining Category 2 status with a nearly parallel track to the coast, follows established meteorological patterns that have been documented for centuries.

FACTS THE ESTABLISHMENT WON’T TELL YOU

What CNN and other mainstream outlets conveniently omit is that hurricane frequency has shown no statistically significant increase over the past century when accounting for improved detection capabilities. The Atlantic Basin has experienced cyclical patterns of hurricane activity since record-keeping began.

The East Coast has weathered far more powerful storms throughout recorded history, including the devastating Great Hurricane of 1938 and Hurricane Hazel in 1954 - long before the current obsession with attributing every weather event to anthropogenic climate change.

POLITICAL EXPLOITATION BEGINS

As predictable as the tides, progressive politicians are already positioning themselves for photo opportunities in affected areas, ready to leverage human suffering to advance their climate agenda and massive spending proposals. The playbook remains unchanged: exploit natural disasters to justify expansion of federal authority and implementation of economically devastating “green” policies.

Governor Williams has already called for “immediate climate action” in response to Erin - a transparent attempt to capitalize on citizens’ concerns during an emergency to push through policies that would otherwise face greater scrutiny.

RATIONAL PREPARATION WITHOUT PANIC

Communities in Erin’s path should absolutely take necessary precautions. Property protection, evacuation plans, and emergency supplies remain essential. However, citizens deserve facts without the apocalyptic rhetoric that has become standard in weather reporting.

The historical resilience of American coastal communities demonstrates our capacity to adapt to changing conditions through innovation and proper infrastructure - not through crippling regulations and wealth redistribution schemes disguised as environmental policy.
